Foggy Winter Scenes

When I woke up to thick fog I knew I had to get out and photograph. I did have quite bit to do at work though. I went out for a couple of hours this morning and had a good time making photographs near Sugar City and Teton. I then headed back to work and got most of my work done. I then drove out towards Ashton in the evening and continued. What a beautiful day. Here are a couple images:

Fun Farm Ice Dam

So, it’s been a pretty cold winter and much of the lower Henry’s Fork has been iced over. It’s been a bit warmer lately and the river was really breaking up this morning. The chunks of ice were forming a pretty nice ice dam near Fun Farm Bridge. Here’s the view looking downstream.

Willow and Ditch

This is my favorite type of subject matter to photograph. It’s merely an ordinary willow tree in a field with a ditch around it.

Spiral Jetty

My friend and colleague David Belka has been checking the water levels at the Spiral Jetty regularly for a few months now. He called a couple of days ago to let me know that the jetty is now mostly above water and wondered if I wanted to ride down with him to photograph it. I invited another photographer, Scott, to come along with us. Last night we made a quick trip down. The light was awesome, the weather was nearly perfect, and we had a fun time photographing the lake and the jetty. There were a surprising number of people out visiting the jetty. I’d never seen that many people at there before (of course I’ve only been a handful of times). It was kind of cool to see actually.

Here are a couple of my better efforts from the night.

Dilapidated Homestead, Ashton, ID 2010

I’ve passed this home many times on my way to and from places. My student Alex photographed an interior and it looked pretty interesting. I decided to go in yesterday. The place is pretty sketchy. I’m not sure it will be standing much longer.
