Lava Tubes Revisited
A few years ago (2005) my friend Jon and I photographed quite a few lava tubes in the desert north of Rexburg. It was a blast and I learned a lot about photography that summer. Today a few faculty members and students took that familiar drive north of town and revisited a couple of tubes. We went to Dragon’s Breath Cave, a beautiful series of collapsed and intact tubes. We then went to the Civil Defense Caves, a well-known, but still impressive cave. Anyway, it was a great. Here are a few efforts:

dragons breath #2 so awesome!
I regret that you were unable to see the “original” conditions of the caves I visited in the 1960s. In one cave there were ice crystals growing from the roof. Each was in the pattern of a snowflake and the size of my open hand. There were hundreds of them. Too, I regret that at my next visit the crystals, which must have taken months/years to grow were destroyed by other visitors. Thanks for the memories.
